This is a very interesting find! Well, according to a friend of mine this is old news and has been known for years, but currently I can't find anything about this outside the new video and posts related to it. Anyhow, in case you didn't know, it turns out that pouring Forest Water onto Kalle Demos' "carpel" will instantly defeat the boss.
Oddly enough, this does make quite some sense and it's details like this that make Zelda games so great. Years later you can still find out some pretty curious things. Of course with the 20 minute time limit (30 in the Wind Waker HD) you either have to beat the dungeon very quickly or get out of your way to collect the Forest Water right before the boss. But I still will try this on my next run through the game.
(Thanks to angelday for the tip!)
That was awesome. In my 14 playthroughs of TWW I had never realized that.
ReplyDeleteI did discover that the Ending Blow can kill bosses instantly in TP, though.
Now I have a new excuse to replay Wind Waker. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteClearing Forbidden Woods with a bottle of Forest Water should be doable if you speedrun through it and avoid detours such as collecting items such as Treasure Charts from non-essential chests. Skip the Map and Compass isn't a bad idea either. All of this however should only work in the HD version. I don't think it's even possible to clear this dungeon in less than 20 minutes.
You have to brave several linear rooms and navigate around oddly placed obstacles. Until you get the Boomerang, you're stuck on this path. Getting the Big Key can also be time consuming.
But then again the warp jars make leaving the dungeon not much of a hassle, in the case we need to restock on Forest Water.
