Today's announcement didn't come without any new footage, where we can take another glimpse at what the ancient-looking Link is up to. The Master Sword is completely corroded, it's in a much worse state than it was in Breath of the Wild. There is an orb of golden light next to Link and he draws the sword, where his hand is glowing in the same golden light.
It feels like one of those scenes in Skyward Sword,
where Link was forging the Goddess Sword into the Master Sword. Maybe
Fi will even play a slightly bigger role again, since she already got
teased in Breath of the Wild, but probably not in the same vein
as in the Wii title. You don't see her dancing around or anything like
that, but the Master Sword has a blue glow to it and the handle looks a lot more blue. Maybe Fi will be equally damaged, where you are saving her along
with the sword. In any case, it would make having Skyward Sword HD on the Nintendo Switch even more relevant.
The Master Sword probably gets corrupted like that in the beginning, in the scene with Mummy Ganondorf from the original teaser trailer. And it will be part of your mission to restore it. This makes sense, because having the Master Sword right from the start will be too overpowered, so Nintendo needed to find a way to get it out of the equation. But at the same time this is hardly innovative, so let's see what else they are going to make out of this situation.
It was also never fully restored in Breath of the Wild, where Ganondorf probably took advantage of that fact. Remember how he mocked the weakened Master Sword back in The Wind Waker, where now he may be a little bit wiser and tried to destroy the blade once and for all.
In hindsight i was surprised BotW1 didn't make a bigger deal out of the damaged state the master sword was in before Link went into his sleep. Especially since the logo had it in that damaged state. Seems like putting it back on the pedestal just allowed it to "regenerate" over the years
ReplyDeleteMaybe Marth's Falchion could be corroded, ruined, destroyed, AND damaged the same way. Broken, shattered, AND fixed up so many times in so many eras so it looks different ev'ry time.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe the Nintendo devs could disguise the Master Sword as that form as a flame-bladed short sword disguise to have a clever setup (make it look like a corroded state, but a like a flame-bladed short sword design), but not permanently damage the sword. But still have it upgraded so it's back to the full power. Like Anduril in The Lord o' the Rings bein' remade as a stronger sword fer Aragorn.
ReplyDeleteLink's gotta restore the Master Sword (even make it permanently unbreakable, invincible, indestructible, immune to corrosion, AND fully intact when it's restored), save Zelda's life, fight against Ganondorf w/ Zelda's help, kill Ganondorf w/ a stab in his heart, survive the climactic fight, marry Zelda, AND turn into Hyrule's first king (or king consort) in a long time! AND be the dad to a new Zelda w/ Zelda as her mom in the finale (w/ Link an' Zelda as the newest Zelda's parents at 125-126 years old w/ their legitimate firstborn daughter at 4-5 years old)! In the French script, Kass said Link's gunna rule over a freed Hyrule w/ Zelda. Nintendo's gotta turn THAT into a reality w/ Link an' Zelda married to each other as hubby AND wifey. Link's a commoner, a regular Joe, AND the Hero o' the Wild who's gotta be married to his Zelda 'cuz they're in love w/ each other. Link's gotta save her again.
ReplyDeleteOkay... :D
ReplyDeleteWhen Link restores the holy Master Sword, it'd better be a permanent restoration so it's still the holy sword that's still the divine steel sword, but more permanent! Maybe make the Master Sword permanently indestructible, permanently unbreakable, permanently invincible, permanently immune to all corruption, permanent immune to all corrosion, AND fully intact so it won't be damaged badly in any way ever again! Maybe make the holy sword everlastin' so it never breaks again, never corrodes again, AND never gets damaged again w/ Link fixes it in the story. As just the first step to end the Demon Tribe curse fer good. Like full circle fer Skyward Sword's era. Plus, Link an' Zelda should still be reunited again, win the fight against Ganondorf w/ the restored Master Sword, survive, AND get married to each other as equals ta rule Hyrule together in a golden age w/ peace!
