Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy Announced

One day before the final Tears of the Kingdom trailer, which will certainly be the talk of the upcoming weeks, Frozenbyte managed to put out a trailer for their next game – Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy. And it looks very solid.

It seems to follow up on the quality of their two best titles, Trine 2 and Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince, where it has the good side-scrolling gameplay with some awesome abilities to unlock. It looks very close to what we already had in Trine 4, however, with the ricochet arrows for Zoya and the metallic ball for Amadeus. Only the wedge blade for Pontius seems to be new so far...

I hope the game will be more free-form with the ability progression again, where in Trine 4 you got certain abilities at specific points from defeating enemies, which were then used for puzzle solving. It felt more like a standard Action Adventure that way, while Trine 2 had a similar mentality to Breath of the Wild, where you are presented with problems and obstacles and you can just try to find a solution that works best for you based on what you have.

The Trine series also features a new type of enemy with every entry, similar to Bayonetta, where this time it's Steampunk-style mechanical automata. And I like the evil queen character as the antagonist, who is plotting against the heroes. It certainly seems to be the most interesting villain in the series so far, but that's not saying much.

Curiously, they haven't even brought Trine 4: Melody of Mystery, which was an expansion, to consoles yet. Makes you wonder whether they will ever do it or not. Maybe it's another thing that they'll simply skip over...
