Link's Awakening Remake: amiibo Chambers

In the Gameplay section of the North American website for Link's Awakening on Nintendo Switch we can finally find some more info about what the other Zelda amiibo will do the game. And so far it seems rather simple...

Turns out that there is a total of five exclusive chambers for the Chamber Dungeon, which can only be unlocked by scanning five different Zelda amiibo (including the ones from the Super Smash Bros. amiibo line). The following chambers then will be unlocked in a random order:

  • Great Fairy's Chamber
  • Cracked Floor Chamber
  • Moblin Chief’s Chamber
  • Ball and Chain Trooper’s Chamber
  • Armos Knight’s Chamber

We even have some screenshots of the three mini dungeon mini bosses, though these screenshots are from the original encounters and not from the Chamber Dungeon:

There doesn't seem to be a chamber for the Lanmola boss fight, which is a shame, though it could be that you can get it on other means, since you can get chambers from other places in the game as well.

But I'm personally not a fan of this use for the amiibo, even though I do own all the Zelda ones. Locking content behind amiibo is never a nice thing and in this case it's not even any special content (except maybe the cracked floor chamber), it's stuff from caves and mini dungeons. And this content should be unlockable by playing the game normally, while the amiibo give you things that aren't to be found in the normal game.

The "Plus Effects" seemed like a better idea for the amiibo, because they don't necessarily take away from the possibilities of building a dungeon, but so far only the new Link seems to be adding one (the Shadow Link) . The Japanese website for the Chamber Dungeon also shows us a Plus Effect for a big bomb, but this doesn't seem to be tied to the amiibo.

Maybe there is more to learn about the amiibo here, which Nintendo hasn't revealed yet, but so far the amiibo features look quite underwhelming...
