Link's Awakening Remake: Too Much Trendy Game!

In their 12 big changes video for The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening on Nintendo Switch, GameXplain goes over the improved mini-games, where the Trendy Game seems to have received the biggest overhaul overall. Not only does it work completely different with its crane physics, but the unique rewards have been multiplied tenfold at least.

In the original only the Yoshi Doll was of interest in the Trendy Game, but now there is not only one, but two Pieces of Heart to be gotten from this game, as well as at least one Secret Seashell. And then there's the entire collection of Super Mario enemy figurines, which are seemingly exclusive to this game...

Usually, when you get two Pieces of Heart from a mini-game, this is already a warning sign, because ideally you want to be done with a mini-game quickly on repeat playthroughs and don't have to play it multiple times for multiple rewards. Majora's Mask liked to overload its many mini-games for example, where you have to repeat most of them up to four times.

But the Trendy Game will set a new record in this department and probably overstay its welcome. Well, maybe it's so quick and fun to play that this is the best thing ever, but with the new physics it probably can get a little frustrating. Or maybe this was done, because there aren't many mini-games overall in Link's Awakening and this was the best way to cram as many new rewards into the game as possible. It's certainly better than to add an entirely new mini-game, which doesn't fit the game in the end. Still, getting two Pieces of Heart here seems a little bit too much, when there's all the figurines already.

(I still hope that there will be a second fishing mini-game at Martha's Bay now, because the new fishing looks more fun to be honest.)
