Link's Awakening Remake: Seashell Sensor

screenshot of Link receiving a present in the Seashell Mansion

Polygon has released their own list of differences for the Link's Awakening remake and they actually share some news about Secret Seashells here.

Their estimate is that there are about 50 seashells now (though they could be wrong) and if you get to apparently 20 of them there will be a new reward this time: the Seashell Sensor. This new item will make a sound (hopefully the nice compass key sound) whenever you are close to a Secret Seashell. They used the wording "equipped" and ideally this something that you can turn on or off, like the Sheikah Sensor in Breath of the Wild.

If they force this on you, I would personally be very unhappy, because I want to find all new Secret Seashells without any help. I even think that this item seems somewhat unnecessary and cheap, because you should be able to notice the hiding spots of seashells yourself. Having a sound telling you about the secret kind of defeats the purpose.

In any case, it might be that the Seashell Sensor is the item that goes between the Secret Seashells and your Chamber Stones in the inventory.

Update: the Seashell Sensor really is below the seashells in the inventory and it has a checkmark on it, where this probably means that it can be checked off.

There is also the question, how many seashells the L-2 sword now will require. In the original you could get it as soon as you acquire the Flippers and this should be true in the remake as well. But of course there will be more seashells to find, so at the time you get the Flippers you might be looking at 30 of them or so. It would be bad change, however, if you couldn't get the Seashell Sword before the end of the game. The later rewards should be something else.

20 seashells for the sensor also doesn't seem to add up with the bars in the Seashell Mansion (see the image at the top of this post). The rewards are at bars 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10, where 20 can only be divided by the latter. Maybe you get the sensor at 15 seashells or so...
