Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: Update 5.0.0 Released

One of the nice treats of last night was that we immediately got the latest DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with Banjo & Kazooie. Of all the DLC so far this seems to be the most underwhelming one, but it's still nice to have Banjo in Smash as a small part of Nintendo's history. It's also interesting how they were seemingly done with Banjo in June already...

Anyway, the update 5.0.0 came with another major addition: the Home-Run Contest mode. This wasn't the biggest surprise, since this had been leaked together with the Stage Builder in the beginning of this year, but this mode has been a series staple and it's nice to have it back. However, at the same time Sakurai had announced in the presentation that this "pretty much" the final new mode... Of course when he's saying it like this there might be one smaller mode more, but so far every update for one of the Fighters Pass's fighters came with a significant addition:

  • 3.0.0: Stage Builder and Edit Video modes
  • 4.0.0: Online Tourney mode
  • 5.0.0: Home-Run Contest mode

Of course not every update has to come with a major addition (2.0.0 for example didn't), but it's possible that Sakurai's team wants to give the fans something of interest with every update. And this doesn't have to be new game modes, it can be new stages, Echo Fighters or even a new Mii Fighter type (like the Mii Mage)...

(Apropos Mii, the Sans Mii outfit is the first time that I'm actually interested in purchasing any of the Mii costumes, since it looks really cool and even comes with music from Undertale. That's how you do it!)

Anyway, with the announcement that there will be even more new fighters beyond the Fighters Pass they will probably have to re-arrange the character and stage select screens anyway, so there should be room for even more additions.

And (Skyward Sword) Impa as an Echo Fighter is still the best shot the Zelda series currently has at a newcomer. Even with additional DLC fighters coming the chances are slim that any of those will actually be for the Zelda series, though Tingle would still be hilarious. Let's see, where all of this will go.
